College of Education Launches Innovative Teacher-Training Lab to Boost Classroom Readiness
In a landmark move to bridge theory and practice, Job College of Education, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Teacher-Training Lab & Simulation Center aimed at enhancing the practical skills of pre-service teachers before they enter real classrooms.
The lab is currently being piloted by a cohort of 50 final-year students in the Science Education department. Over a 6-week period, these students taught mini-lessons to simulated student groups. Preliminary assessments show that participants improved their classroom management scores by 35% and lesson delivery effectiveness by 28% compared to peers in the control group.

Faculty & Partnerships

JOB COE partnered with EduTech Solutions, a Nigerian educational technology firm, to design the simulation software and infrastructure. Several faculty members also underwent intensive training abroad. Dr. Olaleye mentioned that an exchange program is underway with a partner institution in South Africa for shared best practices.

Impact & Future Plans

The college plans to scale the lab to all departments (Languages, Arts, Mathematics, Social Sciences) by mid-2026, with each department getting its own dedicated simulation suite. The long-term goal is to reduce the “shock of first posting” — when fresh graduates struggle in their first year of teaching — by pre-equipping them with classroom experience in a controlled environment.
